Former Super Eagles player Jonathan Akpoborie has praised the efforts of the homebased Eagles at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) for even making the semifinals of the competition.
Nigeria on Wednesday lost their semifinal match at the competition to Ghana,who progressed to the finals after a 4-1 victory in a penalty shootout.
The Eagles up until their loss to Ghana in the semifinals,gave a good account of themselves,scoring goals aplenty which has seen them emerge as the top scorers with twelve goals.
"The guys actually gave everything that they have because you know the game against Morocco was thrilling enough and everybody enjoyed it” Akpoborie told local station BrilaFM
“At the beginning of the tournament, nobody expected them to get to where they got to.”
The former Stuttgart striker further added that competition should be seen as ground to give the homebased players the adequate exposure.
“This primary objective in this kind of tournament should not be the win at all cost syndrome, but just to develop and give experience to all of the players.”
